Title: The information theory model of the semantics of natural languages
Abstract: In my lecture I seek the answer to the question asking whether it is possible to model the semantics of natural languages within the frames of information theory and to measure the meaning of certain morphemes. By doing so I examine how Shannon’s formula for entropy can be applied in describing the most probable usage of morphemes. If we adopt Wittgenstein’s interpretation of a morpheme’s meaning that is its usage then we can attribute a certain value to the meaning and that value will be able to be used for further calculations.
